In 1999, I collaborated with two friends, Gloria Hanson and Wendy Henderson, to plan and present a knitting retreat near Vernon, BC. This event definitely met a need and proved so successful that retreats have been held every year on the weekend following Victoria Day each May. The topics change from year to year, and have been wide-ranging, from socks and sweaters to colour and design. The purpose remains the same—to enhance skills and knowledge thus building confidence and independence. Retreats are now held at Sorrento Centre on Shuswap Lake near Salmon Arm, BC.
